Tripura Govt cancels summer vacation in state-run colleges
The Tripura government has cancelled the 26-day summer vacation in all state-run colleges, including technical and professional institutions, according to an official notification issued on Friday.
The summer vacation was scheduled to begin on May 26. However, the Higher Education Department has decided to withdraw the break in the interest of students.
“In the interest of the students, summer vacation for 26 days for all colleges, technical and professional institutions under the department’s control, scheduled from May 26, is hereby withdrawn,” Higher Education Director Animesh Debbarma said in the notification.
The notification stated that colleges will remain open to carry out academic and administrative activities, including the admission process for the 2026-27 academic sessions, even semester examinations and other official work will continue.
It also mentioned that faculty members and staff working during the period will be granted 26 days of Earned Leave in lieu of the cancelled vacation.
According to Debbarma, the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) and the semester-based academic structure have significantly reduced the scope for long summer vacations in colleges.
“This is one of the major reasons for the cancellation of summer vacation,” he said. At present, Tripura has 22 state-run general degree colleges across the state.
